The final pieces of the puzzle

New HP ZR30w monitor flanked by two HP LP2065 monitors

After building the new computer and the arrival of the new monitors, it's been a while since I've been able to complete my “evil plan”. The final pieces of the puzzle arrived today, including a shiny new 30" HP ZR30w monitor (another S-IPS panel).

That completes my desktop real estate empire, by rotating the two 1600×1200 pixel 20.1" monitors to flank the 2560×1600 pixel 30" monitor, giving a total effective desktop of 4960×1600. To drive all this, I've bought a Gigabyte GV-R5876P-2GD-B 2GiB Radeon HD5870 Eyefinity 6 graphics card to replace the cheap temporary graphics card from the original build. I bought this card because it's the closest to — if not the same as — the reference card design from AMD, meaning it'll be easy to buy a quiet aftermarket cooler. This is now the noisiest thing in the box.

To take advantage of write caching on my disks, I've also purchased an APC BR1500GI Back-UPS Pro 1500VA UPS. Not much to say about this thing, other than the firmware is slightly buggy if it's left off for a little bit, but brain-deading the unit solves the issue just like on their big Smart-UPS brothers, so I'm not too bothered.

I think I should stop buying computer stuff for a while. Let's just consider this a bit of a “birthday present” to myself.

Anyway, with the new GPU I'm going to push it with some new stuff from the demo-scene!
