Sunday, July 30. 2006Road-Trip Day 7“We cut through Italy again, down to the coast & through Nice and Cannes (= shit; French versions of Miami). Staying in-land at Brignoles, in an automated hotel!” Still in Chamonix, we grabbed a coffee at a café where we met another Australian. She'd been travelling around for a while, and had presently settled down in Chamonix to earn a bit of cash. In itself, it's not too strange, considering us Australians are everywhere! We left Chamonix and did some nice country driving south through some cute small towns and winding roads until crossing back into Italy via the Fréjus Tunnel. We had planned on heading towards Nice or Cannes for the evening, so we headed south towards the Côte d'Azur. Once arriving in Nice, it was soon discovered that the place was essentially a French version of Miami, so we kept on moving until we reached Cannes. Essentially, it was more of the same thing, except much filthier. We tried to get a hotel room anyway, and practically got laughed at, so we left the awful place and headed inland to find a friendlier rural town. We wound up in Brignoles, which was essentially closed since it was so late at night. We found a Villages-Hôtel, an almost fully automated hotel with no staff, which was dirt cheap and perfect for what we were looking for. Despite a little bit of late-night exploring around the area, we didn't see much here beyond the bogans at the local McDonald's. Trackbacks
