Saturday, July 29. 2006Road-Trip Day 6“We've cut across Italy, and since Scott was obsessed about it, paid 32€ to use the Mont Blanc tunnel.. Boring. Spending the night in Chamonix, under Mont Blanc..” While leaving Slovenia, we stopped for fuel at an OMV station, where unbeknownst to us they had a promotion at the time where busty Slovenian women would wash your car's windows as a free service when you were buying fuel. I mention this, because we got quite a lot of fuel for the road ahead… ☺ We cut through the top of Italy, only stopping at a Roadhouse for a quick lunch and some more petrol. Entering Italy was interesting, as we had to pass through possibly the rudest passport control I've ever seen. That, combined with nearly 100€ of toll-ways didn't really invite us to stop anywhere for a look-see. We eventually went through the Mont Blanc Tunnel (which took 19 years to build) to the beautiful and picturesque town of Chamonix in France. After going from hotel to hotel searching for accommodation, my pathetic French finally got a good work-out when we found a small bed and breakfast run by a very friendly local. The town is quite touristy, but regardless it's full of very good restaurants and bars, so we definitely ate well! It's a nice small town with a cute feel, and I can imagine it would be full in winter as well because of the region. Trackbacks
